Although often called a "koala bear", the koala is not a bear at all, but a pouched mammal (marsupial) that typically lives in eucalyptus trees in Eastern Australia. They are most active at night and spend 18-20 hours a day resting and sleeping. The average lifespan is 20 years, and they grow in size from 23-33 inches and weigh about 20 lbs.
